Robert was born in 1921 to Henry Morris and Mary Gillespie. The birth was registered in Coatbridge.

In 1930, the family were living at Duke Street, Rosewell, Midlothian, where Robert's father worked at the Brick Works at the top end of the village.

Stoker 2nd Class Robert Gillespie Morris died 13 January 1940, age 18.

He is buried at Hawthornden Cemetery, Rosewell and commemorated on the memorial plaque in Rosewell Memorial and Church Hall, Rosewell, Midlothian.
