Father Thomas (Farmer) (47), born Kettins, Forfarshire; Mother Jane (38) born Ireland; Son James (11), born Blairgowrie; Daughter Agnes (8) born Blairgowrie; Son Gordon (4) born Blairgowrie. Also living at his address was Mary Robertson (General Servant, Domestic) (21) born Blairgowrie.

Gordon was educated at Coupar Angus Public School and Perth Academy, he was subsequently apprenticed as an Architect.

He joined the Scottish Horse on 16th October 1913, and served with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force at the Dardanelles from the beginning of August 1915.

Blairgowrie Advertiser 30th October 1915:

“SCOTTISH HORSE TROOPER KILLED"

“On Wednesday, Mr. Thomas Ferguson, ‘Princeland Farm’, received official notification that his youngest son, Trooper Gordon Scott Ferguson, of ‘C’ Sqadron, 1st Scottish Horse, has fallen in action at the Dardanelles on 7th October. Trooper Ferguson, who was only 18 years of age, joined his squadron in 1913, and was chosen to act as one of the mounted guard of honour to their Majesties on their last visit to Perth. He was educated at Coupar Angus Public School and Perth Academy and was latterly engaged as an apprentice architect with Mr, Erskine Thomson, Perth. This early removal by death of a bright and promising young man has given rise to a deep feeling of regret in the district, where his father has done yeoman service in connection with recruiting, and also with the administration of the Soldier’s and Sailors’ Relief Fund.”

Gordon Ferguson has no known grave and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Gallipoli. He is also commemorated on the Civic Roll of Honour in Coupar Angus Town Hall; the Coupar Angus North United Free Church War Memorial; and the Coupar Angus Public School War Memorial.
