This cemetery is in the Parish of Charlton and Kidbrooke, in the Metropolitan Borough of Greenwich, and it belongs to the Borough Council. It is near the West side of Woolwich Common. It was opened in 1855, and it covers eight acres of ground.
The cemetery contains the scattered graves of 59 Commonwealth burials of the 1914-1918 war. The War Cross is erected in Section D (General Ground), facing the entrance to the cemetery. A special memorial located near to the entrance bears the names of 2 sailors and 2 soldiers whose graves are not marked by headstones. There are a further 55 Commonwealth burials of the 1939-1945 war throughout the cemetery.
