Heritage open days

This September, CWGC sites across the country will be hosting Heritage Open Day events, as part of England’s largest grass roots heritage festival.

You are invited to explore some of our key regional sites and discover our unique heritage, learn more about our architecture and horticulture and to experience local history – all for free. Running from 11-20 September you can book yourself onto one of our guided tours, where our engagement team will give you an insight into the history of the CWGC and its continuing work today. Scotland’s Open Doors events are taking place later this month so look out for updates for details about what will be happening there.

Upcoming open days

WALKING TOUR – CWGC BROOKWOOD MILITARY CEMETERY

Tours everyday at 1000 and 1400 from Friday 11th September to Sunday 20th September.

Brookwood Military Cemetery is the largest Commonwealth War Graves Commission site in the United Kingdom, covering approximately 37 acres. As part of Heritage Open Days, guided tours will be given around the war graves and memorials in the cemetery.

Due to current restrictions, all those who wish to attend MUST book a place.

CWGC WALK AND TALK AT STONEFALL CEMETERY, HARROGATE

1100, 1300, 1500 on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th September.

With over 1000 Commonwealth War Graves, Stonefall Cemetery is one of the largest CWGC sites in the North of England. As part of Heritage Open Days, guided walks will be given around the war graves in the cemetery.

Due to current restrictions, all those who wish to take part MUST book a place.

WAR HERO EYE SPY – WESTON MILL CEMETERY, PLYMOUTH

Tour on Saturday 12th September at 1400

Come along for an 'Eye Spy a War Hero' at Weston Mill Cemetery, exploring some of the casualties from the First and Second World Wars. A tour designed for children.

Come along for a guided walk to look at some of the Commonwealth War Graves and memorials in Weston Mill Cemetery covering the First and Second World Wars.

Tours on Thursday 17th September at 1030

Come along for a guided walk to find out about some of the Commonwealth War Graves and memorials from First and Second World Wars in Plymouth's Efford Cemetery.
