Location information
By car from Patricia Bay Highway (Highway #17) exit at Royal Oak Drive. Turn at the first left, Falaise Drive, and turn left at the T-junction. Follow that road to the cemetery. The Commonwealth War Graves at Royal Oak Burial Park are located in Section "D". A cemetery map is located inside the main gate.
Visiting information
The cemetery grounds are open for visitation year-round from 8:30 a.m. until dusk. The on site cemetery office is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and is closed on Saturday and Sunday.
History information
During the Second World War the Victoria-Esquimault Fortress Area was one of three main defence areas of the Pacific Command.
The Burial Park is a municipal cemetery. Most of the Second World War casualties buried here were airmen who served at the Royal Canadian Air Force Station at Patricia Bay. Among the Royal Air Force graves is one which contains the remains of 11 airmen who lost their lives in a training flight from the station at Abbotsford, some 100 kilometres north-east of Victoria. Nearly all of the airmen's graves are in Section D; the other war graves are scattered in various parts of the cemetery.
