  • Additional Info Son of Mr. W. R. and Mrs. J. C. Sorley, of St. Giles', Chesterton Lane, Cambridge. Sorley was educated at Marlborough and won a scholarship to University College, Oxford. He enlisted in August 1914 and soon found himself in the trenches; he made Captain in August, 1915. Sorley was killed in action at Loos in October of the same year. His 'Marlborough and Other Poems' was published in 1916 and ran into four editions. It was said that Sorley had a real gift for rhyming.
