Ceremonies held for 80th anniversary of the Anzio landings

Ceremonies to mark to 80th anniversary of the Anzio landings were held at CWGC Anzio War Cemetery and Anzio Beach Head Cemetery on the 22 January 2024.

Present were the British Ambassador the Rt Hon Edward Llewellyn OBE as well as officers from NATO Joint Force Command Naples, officers of the Italian Army and the Arma dei Carabinieri. Representatives of the Extraordinary Commission of Anzio and the Municipality of Nettuno also attended and wreaths were laid at both Cemeteries.

In Anzio Beach Head War Cemetery 180 pupils aged 5-10 years old of the school Istituto Comprensivo Anzio Via Jenne also participated in the ceremony.

CWGC gardeners Mauro Colaceci, Luigi Cera and Valerio Pitoni were present at Anzio Beach Head; and Gennaro d’Avino in Anzio War Cemetery. Giordano Righetti, CWGC External Relations Advisor C&SEA laid wreaths at both ceremonies on behalf of the CWGC.
