Heavy lifting at Bus House Cemetery

Restoration work is taking place at CWGC Bus House Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium due to shrinkage of the clay soil causing stability problems.

It was decided to remove the Cross of Sacrifice and headstones while the remedial work took place. They will be reinstated with reconstructed boundary walls on new foundations by spring 2023. As much original stone will be retained as possible, with high-quality Boomse Bricks and lime mortar used in the restoration process in line with CWGC's restoration policy. The work is supported by the Flemish Government and is being carried out by Koplamp architects and Benetin as works contractors.
