Menin Gate restoration update: work now starting on the roof

A new chapter is starting in the restoration of the Menin Gate Memorial as work begins on the roof.

From 5 February 2024, a temporary loading platform will be built on the ramparts next to the WW1 Memorial. This platform will enable us to assemble the elements of a temporary roof for the Memorial, that will be installed in the week of 19 February. The temporary roof will provide cover as we carry out the necessary repairs and install the new permanent waterproofing.

During this work, the path to the ramparts will be closed to the public for a maximum of 1 week (including after working hours) in the week beginning the 5 February.

The Menin Gate Moments Exhibition will still be accessible via a path further down the Bollingstraat. We expect to dismantle the loading platform from mid-March, with another closing of the path to the ramparts for 1 week.
