Lord Charles was a Captain in the Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry and was the 7th Marquess of Lansdowne. He was from Bowood Estate, Derry Hill, Wiltshire.

He was killed 20th August 1944 in Italy aged 27. Lord Charles is commemorated on Panel 2 of the Cassino memorial. Cassino War Cemetery lies in the Commune of Cassino, Province of Frosinone, 139 kilometres south-east of Rome.

Lord Charles is commemorated on the Derry Hill war memorial - alongside his brother Lord Edward Norman Fitzmaurice and his uncle Lord Charles Mercer Nairne. The Derry Hill war memorial was unveiled on the 14th May 1920 by Lady Maud Evelyn Petty-Fitzmaurice, Marchioness of Lansdowne (Lady Lansdowne).
