In 1901, the Taylor family were living at 5 Calton Street, St. Vincent Place, Coupar Angus, Perthshire: Father, John (Railway Signalman), b. c1862, Cargill, Perthshire: Mother, Mary Jessie, b. c1863, Buckie, Banffshire; Daughter, Agnes F., b. c1893, Kirriemuir, Forfarshire; Son, John A., b. c1895, Kirriemuir; Daughter, Mary Jessie, b. c1897, Coupar Angus; Son, William D., b. c1899, Coupar Angus; and Son, George, b. c1900, Coupar Angus.

“COUPAR ANGUS"

“Mr and Mrs John Taylor, Townhead, Coupar Angus, received intimation on Wednesday that their son, Gunner William Taylor, R.G.A., had died of wounds on 17th August."

"This soldier was first reported as wounded, then as missing, and, after an interval of eight weeks, is now returned as among the dead."

"He enlisted shortly after the outbreak of war, at the early age of 16, having previously been an apprentice engineer at Messrs. Bisset’s Agricultural Implement Works, Blairgowrie."

"He had a brilliant career at Coupar Angus Public School, winning the Krlthick medal as dux of the school in his year, and having an unbroken attendance during his school life. Two brothers are presently serving in the Army. Gunner Taylor took a great interest in local football and other sports.”

At the time of his death William Taylor was 19 years old.

William Taylor is also commemorated on the Civic Roll of Honour in Coupar Angus Town Hall; the Coupar Angus Public School War Memorial; the Coupar Angus North United Free Church War Memorial; and the Coupar Angus Abbey Church War Memorial.
