Albert Victor Andrews was born in Binsted in 1897. The youngest son of Andrew and Eliza (née Wareham), he was one of four children. His parents were natives of Binsted. At the age of 13 he was employed as an under-carter on a farm.

Having enlisted at Guildford with the 7th Battalion Queen’s (Royal West Surrey) Regiment, he entered the war in France on 27th July 1915.

1605 Lance Corporal Albert Andrews died of wounds, at the age of 19, on 5th October 1916 and was buried in Mont Huon Cemetery, Le Treport, France (Plot 1J.11).

He was awarded the 1914-15 Star in addition to the British War and Victory Medals. Chawton’s Memorial also bears his name as the family was living in the village at the time of his death.
