Charles Cornelius Northway was born in 1893 in Breamore, Hampshire to William and Julia Northway.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 6 Hares Lane, Hartford Bridge near Hartley Wintney in Hampshire. Charles and his father are farm carters.

Charles served with 1st Bn., The Queen’s Regiment and died of his wounds on 26th September 1915, the day following the opening of the Battle of Loos, in which the battalion took part. He is buried at Chocques Military cemetery. This is where there was a Casualty Clearing Station and the men buried in the cemetery were usually casualties from the Bethune Front.

Charles is remembered on the War Memorial in front of St. John's Church in Hartley Wintney, Hampshire.
