Bertram Silver was born in 1892 in Hartley Wintney, Hampshire. His parents were Thomas and Anne Silver who lived at 2 Cedar Terrace in Hartley Wintney. Thomas was a coachman.

By the time of the 1911 census, Bertram has moved to Teddington in Surrey, living with his brother Brian and working as a domestic gardener. Another brother, Charles, is also living in Teddington working as a baker. Their father had died in 1900 and their mother in 1911.

Bertram enlisted in the Royal Fusiliers, 8th Battalion, and was killed in action on the 7th July 1916. He has no known grave and is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial in the Somme.

He is also remembered on the War Memorial in Hartley Wintney, sadly alongside his brothers Charles and Brian who were also killed in WW1.
