Private 4089 Henry Alfred Braden, 26th Battalion, Australian Infantry Force, was born in Alfriston - his parents were Henry and John Braden. At the time of his death, his home address was in Battersea, London where he had lived with his wife Eliza.

Henry was killed at the age of 35 at Amiens, Picardie, France on the 8th of August 1918. He was initially buried in Card Copse Cemetery until post war when the casualties buried therein were exhumed and reinterred in the Villers-Bretonneaux military cemetery.

Henry was the only brother of George Braden, who died peacefully in Alfriston in 1917 at the age of 35 and Henry is commemorated on his headstone in the churchyard.
