William Cook was born in Hartley Wintney in Hampshire in 1899 to James and Emma Cook, the youngest of ten children. In the 1911 census the family are living in Hares Lane, Hartford Bridge, near Hartley Wintney.

William was killed in action on the 15th April 1918, aged just 19, and is buried at the St. Venant-Robecq Road British Cemetery in France.

He is remembered on the war memorial in Hartley Wintney.
