William was born on 4 July 1891 at Milton of Nuide, Kingussie to Alexander Curley (Coachman) and Marjory (m.s. MacDonald) Curley then of Cameron Terrace, Kingussie.

William’s parents married on 8 November 1888 at Kingussie. In the 1911 Census William is described as an apprentice grocer and both a Gaelic and English speaker.

Both William and his brother John served in 4th Cameron Highlanders War Record William travelled to France in February 1915 with the 4th Cameron Highlanders and he was Killed in Action 17 May 1915 at Festubert.

He is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial Panel 41 D – Kingussie War Memorial, St Andrew’s United Free Church Memorial now in Kingussie Parish Church and Kingussie and Insh War Memorial in Kingussie Parish Church.

His brother John was seriously wounded on the same day.
