William Frank Hillier was born in Herriard near Basingstoke in Hampshire on the 27th June 1880. His parents were James Hillier and Frances Skeates.

In 1906 he married Rosemary House in Basingstoke, she had a daughter already called Leslie Angela House born in 1905 and they had four children - Frances born in 1907, Lorna in 1909, Rose in 1911 and David in 1916.

In the 1911 census William, Rosemary and the family are living in Crondall, Hampshire, William is a cowman. But in 1912 the family sail to Quebec in Canada.

By the time of the 1916 census they are living in Brandon, Manitoba and William is a labourer on a farm. Their youngest David is born in Canada in 1916.

William enlisted in the Canadian Army Medical Corps with the 1st General Hospital Corps. He died on the 19th May 1918 and is buried at Etaples Military Cemetery.

William is also remembered on the war memorial in Rotherwick church in Hampshire where his parents lived. His father had died in Rotherwick in 1909, his mother Frances (known as Fanny) was living with the family in Rotherwick in the 1911 census.
