5 Brothers from Bristol
Frederick Preece
Local newspaper article
Memorial of staff of Army Navy store Victoria Re London
Will of F Preece

Frederick was one of 5 brothers serving in WW1 and the only one not to return.

Their father was a builder from Somerset who made a great success in the boom and growth of Bristol.

Frederick went to London to work at the Army Navy stores on Victoria Road and is commemorated on their in store War memorial you can still see today. He married in 1914 at the start of the war and left a wife and daughter.

The family first received the news that Frederick had been wounded in the head then later the sad news .

All 5 serving brothers survived with another being wounded shin in the head but this time recovered to rejoin the fight.

Frederick was the first casualty I found in my research so hold a special place in my heart. This is the only photo I can find of him .

“How sweet the name” on his headstone.
