Charles Nugent Hamilton-Jones was born in Peru in 1898 to Charles and Eloise of Beckenham, Kent. Charles has a connection with the village of Hartley Wintney through his Uncle Percy Downsland Jones who lived at Bellswood in the village.

He is commemorated in St. John's Church Memorial Chapel in Hartley Wintney, but not on the war memorial. He served with the Duke of Cambridge’s Own (Middlesex Regiment) and was killed in action on the 20th September 1917. He is remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
