George was son of James and Eliza Davis and lived at Park Place, Hartley Wintney with his wife, Lydia and three children Fred, Ron and Edna. George was the Black Smith in Hartley Wintney and was nick-named “Blackie”.

He became a Shoeing Smith (Farrier) with the Base Horse Transport of the Army Service Corps. He died aged just 29, having been in France just two days, and is buried in Ste. Marie Cemetery, Le Havre, France.

He is remembered on the War Memorial in front of St. John's Church in Hartley Wintney, Hampshire.
