  • Additional Info Son of Walter John and Ethel Matilda Coltman, of Johannesburg, South Africa. Born in London. Educated at King Edward's School, Johannesburg, Potchefstroom Agricultural College and Emmanuel College, Cambridge, in each of which institutions he gained scholarships. Passed Natural Science Tripos with double honours before joining the Army and gained further scholarships which he did not live to take advantage of. Previously wounded at Ypres in July, 1917.
