Location information

Springvale Botanical Cemetery (formerly Springvale Necropolis), which was opened in 1902, is on the Princes Highway, 15 miles by road from Melbourne and 3 miles from Dandenong. Within its grounds are Springvale War Cemetery and Springvale Crematorium.

History information

At the beginning of the 20th century the Government of the day set aside for burial purposes an area of about 390 acres, to meet the needs of the municipalities south of Yarra. There are just short of 50, 1914-18 war and nearly 100, 1939-45 war casualties commemorated in this cemetery burial ground, in many different plots.
