History information

In July 1944 Halifax JN8884 of 624 Sqdn. crashed in the mountains above the town of Nistos, whilst on a mission to resupply the French Resistance. The crew of 7 were found and buried next to their crashed aircraft by locals, but after the war it proved to be impractical to recover them to a cemetery. However, in 2014 it was decided to erect a plaque in this cemetery to commemorate them as their burial location remains inaccessible for much of the year.
