History information

The churchyard, on the West bank of Lough Swilly, contains the graves of sailors whose bodies were washed ashore from H.M.S. Racoon, wrecked when it ran a ground during a snowstorm. These men, of whom one is unidentified, are buried in one plot in the centre of the Churchyard. There are also buried in one grave in this Churchyard, about nine yards North of the Church, six sailors from H.M.S. Magic, sunk by enemy mine. Both groups of burials are marked by collective memorials. One further War Grave, that of Ldg. Smn. Ward, is separate.

There are in total 24 Commonwealth burials of the 1914-1918 war here, 1 of which is unidentified.
