Winterswijk, in the province of Gelderland, is 6 kilometres from the Dutch-German border, on the secondary road to Osnabruck and Munster. It lies 68 kilometres east of Arnhem and 11 kilometres south-east of Groenlo. The cemetery is located in Waliensestraat on the way to Meddo.
The British plot contains the graves of airmen who crashed or were shot down in the area from 1940 onwards, and soldiers killed in the final phase of the battle which liberated Winterswijk. It is in the north-western corner of the cemetery, in a section which was set aside for all war casualties, both Allied and enemy.
