(1872) for the capture of the Slave Dhow "Jasmine," off the coast of Arabia. Served in the Ashantee Campaign 1873-74; Egyptian Campaign 1882-89: Senior Officer on West Coast of Africa at outbreak of Sierra Leone Rebellion 1898-9. Mentioned in Despatches and awarded C.M.G. Admiral in command of Atlantic Convoys 1917-18. Awarded D.S.O. for his War Services. Awarded Royal Humane Society's Medal for saving life at sea.
