100 Days to Normandy

The Legacy of Liberation

Join us in 100 days to commemorate the 80th anniversary of one of the most pivotal days of the Second World War: D-Day.

On 6 June 2024, we’ll be gathering at Bayeux War Cemetery to remember those commemorated there and at the rest of our cemeteries and memorials across Normandy.

In the lead up to the anniversary of D-Day, we’ll be hosting a number of events at sites across the UK and in France, drawing together the stories of the men who took part in the invasion with their final resting places in Normandy.

Our Torch of Remembrance, a symbol of our commitment to never forget the losses made for our freedom, will journey through key locations, and invite communities to engage with our history.

This torch, passed from veterans to the next generation, represents the legacy of those who served. Be a part of this tribute and help us keep the flame of remembrance burning for generations to come.

On the eve of the anniversary, we’ll be illuminating our sites across Normandy and paying tribute to the fallen with a candlelight vigil at Bayeux.

The invasion of Normandy is one of several key events in the Second World War that we are remembering this year.

In March, we remember the Great Escapers and their valiant breakout from Stalag Luft III. Later in the year, we’ll be commemorating those who fell in India, at the battles of Kohima and Imphal, in Italy at Monte Cassino, and in September we’ll mark the 80th anniversary of Operation Market Garden at Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery.

You can discover more about these Normandy anniversary events throughout the year on our website, where we’ll be highlighting these key chapters in the war and sharing the stories of some of the men and women involved.
