ANNOUNCEMENT - death of CWGC Commissioner Air Marshal David Walker CB CBE AFC

We are saddened to announce the death one of our Commissioners, Air Marshal David Walker, CB, CBE, AFC.

David joined the Commission in 2016, serving as Commissioner with distinction for seven years.

Throughout his time at the Commission, David was an ardent supporter of our work, taking great pride in his association with the Commission, and was an enthusiastic visitor to our cemeteries and memorials. He will be very sadly missed by all who knew and worked with him.

Claire Horton CBE, Director General, said: “David will be greatly missed by everyone at the Commission, from those of us who worked with him in his role as a Commissioner to staff and volunteers who met him and witnessed first-hand his passion and his devotion to our mission. His support will not be forgotten and we send our deepest condolences to all his family and friends.”

Prior to joining the Commission, David was a former RAF Officer. His 34-year career included serving as a Harrier pilot in Germany, the Balkans and Belize as well as a tour as a F/A-18 Hornet pilot with the US Navy.

His senior appointments included NATO Joint Force Deputy Commander, Allied Air Component Deputy Commander and Air Officer Commanding No 1 Group, prior to retiring in 2013. He became National President of the Royal British Legion in 2015.
